Trump Postpones Some Tariffs on Chinese Imports
USAgNet - 09/13/2019

POLITICO reports that President Trump plans to postpone a 5 percent increase in duties on $250 billion in Chinese goods until Oct. 15, he announced this week.

Trump called it a "gesture of good will" given China's 70th anniversary celebration on Oct. 1, when the U.S. initially planned to raise tariffs from 25 percent to 30 percent, writes Pro Trade's Doug Palmer.

The move follows a goodwill gesture from Beijing: The Chinese government announced 16 types of products it would exempt from retaliatory duties, including pesticides and dry whey, a primary ingredient in pig feed, reports POLITICO.

There aren't any major agricultural commodities like soybeans on the list, but China is expected to agree to purchase more U.S. farm goods ahead of high-level negotiations scheduled for early October in Washington.
