Kansas Cotton Acres for Harvest at Record High

Based on September 1 conditions, Kansas's 2020 corn production is forecast at 782 million bushels, down 2% from last year's production, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Area to be harvested for grain, at 5.75 million acres, is down 4% from a year ago. Yield is forecast at 136 bushels per acre, up 3 bushels from last year.

Sorghum for grain in Kansas is forecast at 217 million bushels, up 6% from 2019. Area for harvest, at 2.55 million acres, is up 6% from last year. Yield is forecast at 85 bushels per acre, unchanged from last year.

Soybean production is forecast at a record 231 million bushels, up 24% from last year. Area for harvest, at a record 5.25 million acres, is up 17% from 2019. Yield is forecast at 44 bushels per acre, up 2.5 bushels from last year.

Cotton production is forecast at 320,000 bales, up 14% from last year. Acreage for harvest, at a record 195,000 acres, is up 44,000 acres from 2019. Yield is forecast at 788 pounds per acre, down 102 pounds per acre from a year ago.
