Kansans Get Nearly Perfect Week for Fieldwork

For the week ending Sunday, there were 6.7 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 12% very short, 37% short, 50% adequate, and 1% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 11% very short, 34% short, 54% adequate, and 1% surplus.
Winter wheat planted was 35%, ahead of 26% last year and 25% for the five-year average. Emerged was 10%, near 9% last year and 7% average.
Corn condition rated 5% very poor, 12% poor, 28% fair, 42% good, and 13% excellent. Corn mature was 84%, ahead of 69% last year, and near 81% average. Harvested was 29%, near 25% last year, but behind 35% average.
Soybean condition rated 4% very poor, 11% poor, 35% fair, 40% good, and 10% excellent. Soybeans dropping leaves was 68%, well ahead of 39% last year, and ahead of 51% average. Harvested was 10%, ahead of 1% last year and 5% average.
Sorghum condition rated 3% very poor, 8% poor, 28% fair, 49% good, and 12% excellent. Sorghum coloring was 96%, ahead of 90% last year, and near 94% average. Mature was 45%, ahead of 33% last year, and equal to average. Harvested was 6%, near 5% last year and 9% average.
Cotton condition rated 3% very poor, 11% poor, 39% fair, 41% good, and 6% excellent. Cotton bolls opening was 54%, ahead of 41% last year and 45% average. Harvested was 1%, near 2% average.
Pasture and range conditions rated 7% very poor, 18% poor, 36% fair, 35% good, and 4% excellent.
