Kansas Corn, Soybeans, Cotton at Record Levels

Based on November 1 conditions, Kansas's 2017 corn crop is forecast at a record 707 million bushels, up 1 percent from last year's production, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Area to be harvested for grain, at 5.20 million acres, is up 6 percent from a year ago. Yield is forecast at 136 bushels per acre, down 6 bushels from last year.

Sorghum for grain in Kansas is forecast at 189 million bushels, down 30 percent from last year. Area for harvest, at 2.36 million acres, is down 20 percent from 2016. Yield is forecast at 80 bushels per acre, down 11 bushels from last year.

Soybean production is forecast at a record 204 million bushels, up 6 percent from last year. Area for harvest, at 5.10 million acres, is 27 percent above 2016. Yield is forecast at 40 bushels per acre, down 8 bushels from last year.

Cotton production is forecast at a record 185,000 bales, up 161 percent from last year. Acreage for harvest, at 91,000 acres, is up 60,000 acres from 2016. Yield is forecast at 976 pounds per acre, down 123 pounds per acre from a year ago.
