Kansas Soybean, Sorghum, Wheat Stocks Up Double Digits

Kansas corn stocks in all positions on December 1, 2018 totaled 434 million bushels, down 7 percent from 2017, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Of the total, 130 million bushels are stored on farms, down 13 percent from a year ago. Off-farm stocks, at 304 million bushels, are down 4 percent from last year.

Wheat stored in all positions totaled 450 million bushels, up 13 percent from a year ago. Onfarm stocks of 17.0 million bushels are unchanged from 2017, and off-farm stocks of 433 million bushels are up 13 percent from last year.

Sorghum stored in all positions totaled 180 million bushels, up 15 percent from last year. Onfarm stocks of 30.5 million bushels are up 56 percent and off farm holdings of 149 million bushels are up 9 percent from last year.

Soybeans stored in all positions totaled 168 million bushels, up 14 percent from last year. Onfarm stocks of 47.0 million bushels are up 45 percent from a year ago, and off-farm stocks, at 121 million bushels, are up 5 percent from 2017.

Off-farm oats totaled 274,000 bushels, down 24 percent from 2017.

Hay stocks on Kansas farms totaled 4.30 million tons, down 4 percent from a year earlier.

Grain storage capacity in Kansas totaled 1.53 billion bushels, up 50.0 million bushels from December 1, 2017. Total grain storage capacity is comprised of 380 million bushels of on-farm storage, unchanged from last year, and 1.15 billion bushels of off-farm storage, up 50.0 million bushels from 2017.
