Kansas Ag Connection - 05/16/2017

Gov. Doug Burgum Monday appointed North Dakota State University student Jacob Dailey to the State Board of Higher Education.

Dailey will serve a one-year term on the board starting July 1, replacing current student member Nick Evans, whose term expires June 30.

Dailey is an NDSU senior majoring in agricultural education, with a minor in agricultural systems management. He served as president of the North Dakota Student Association during the past year and has worked as an operations assistant at the NDSU Research & Technology Park since August 2016.

Dailey, who grew up near Canton, Kan., has served as a student senator and executive in NDSU Student Government and as NDSU's representative to the Downtown Community Partnership in Fargo. In addition, he's been a leader with Agriculture Future of America, serving as one of 10 students on its national Student Advisory Team, and was a founding member of the NDSU Agricultural Collective, which works to promote agriculture and educate students and community members about the agriculture industry. Dailey also has worked on various fundraising and volunteer efforts in high school and college.

The State Board of Higher Education consists of seven citizen members appointed by the governor to four-year terms and one student member appointed to a one-year term, along with two non-voting members who represent the North Dakota University System's faculty and staff. The board sets policy for the system and oversees the state's 11 public colleges and universities.
