Kansas Ag Connection - 05/24/2017

Six Southeast Community College students each received $2,500 scholarships from Koch Fertilizer.

Stuart Graff of Hollenberg, Kan.; Conner Luettel, Gresham, Neb.; Bronson Reed, Alliance, Neb.; Alex Lewandowski, Lincoln, Neb.; David Walker, New Market, Iowa; and Brody Weinmann, Verdon, Neb.;are the scholarship recipients. All but one attended a scholarship luncheon to commemorate the awards presented by Koch Fertilizer in Beatrice.

The students represent Energy Generation Operations, Electronic Systems Technology and Electrical & Electromechanical Technology programs at SCC. To be eligible for the scholarships, students must be enrolled in one of the three programs, and maintain a 3.0 grade point average.

Reed will graduate from the Electrical & Electromechanical Technology program in June, and will then start working at Molex in Lincoln. He is thankful for the scholarship.

"It actually kind of lifts a burden for me," he said. "Having two kids and a wife, it eases a lot of frustration."

Koch Fertilizer employs around 90 people at its Beatrice, Neb., plant. Plant manager Phillip Joyner said it's important for the company to maintain a good relationship with SCC.

"Getting good, qualified people to do this kind of work is critical for us," Joyner said.

Koch Fertilizer is part of Koch Industries, a multinational corporation based in Wichita, Kan.
