Most Kansas Winter Wheat Rated Fair to Good

For the week ending Sunday, there were 3.8 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 0 percent very short, 2 short, 71 adequate, and 27 surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 0 percent very short, 1 short, 76 adequate, and 23 surplus.

Winter wheat condition rated 2 percent very poor, 8 poor, 30 fair, 46 good, and 14 excellent. Winter wheat jointed was 95 percent, equal to last year. Headed was 61 percent, behind 67 last year, and well behind 83 for the five-year average.

Corn planted was 61 percent, behind 80 both last year and average. Emerged was 37 percent, behind 53 both last year and average.

Soybeans planted was 17 percent, well behind 47 last year, and behind 29 average. Emerged was 6 percent, behind 19 last year, and near 10 average.

Sorghum planted was 3 percent, near 7 last year and 6 average.

Cotton planted was 18 percent, behind 26 last year, but near 14 average.

Sunflowers planted was 1 percent, behind 6 last year, and near 3 average.

Pasture and range conditions rated 0 percent very poor, 3 poor, 26 fair, 57 good, and 14 excellent.
