Kansas Corn Harvest Now Started

For the week ending Sunday, there were 4.3 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 5 percent very short, 17 short, 71 adequate, and 7 surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 8 percent very short, 23 short, 67 adequate, and 2 surplus.

Corn condition rated 9 percent very poor, 17 poor, 28 fair, 39 good, and 7 excellent. Corn dough was 88 percent, ahead of 81 both last year and for the five-year average. Dented was 58 percent, well ahead of 38 last year and 36 average. Mature was 14 percent, ahead of 3 last year and 4 average. Harvested was 1 percent.

Soybean condition rated 6 percent very poor, 15 poor, 37 fair, 37 good, and 5 excellent. Soybeans blooming was 96 percent, near 94 last year, and ahead of 90 average. Setting pods was 82 percent, ahead of 77 last year and 67 average.

Sorghum condition rated 2 percent very poor, 6 poor, 30 fair, 51 good, and 11 excellent. Sorghum headed was 85 percent, ahead of 77 last year and 78 average. Coloring was 27 percent, ahead of 10 last year and 16 average.

Cotton condition rated 1 percent very poor, 2 poor, 32 fair, 53 good, and 12 excellent. Cotton setting bolls was 70 percent, well ahead of 43 last year and 47 average. Bolls opening was 2 percent, near 6 last year and 4 average.

Pasture and range conditions rated 13 percent very poor, 20 poor, 35 fair, 28 good, and 4 excellent.
