Kansas Winter Wheat Emerging at Average Pace

For the week ending Sunday, there were 6.3 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 13% very short, 27% short, 56% adequate, and 4% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 12% very short, 32% short, 53% adequate, and 3% surplus.

Winter wheat condition rated 2% very poor, 7% poor, 28% fair, 52% good, and 11% excellent. Winter wheat planted was 84%, behind 91% last year, but near 80% for the five-year average. Emerged was 59%, behind 69% last year, but near 58% average.

Corn harvested was 84%, equal to last year, and ahead of 76% average.

Soybean condition rated 4% very poor, 10% poor, 31% fair, 48% good, and 7% excellent. Soybeans dropping leaves was 95%, near 97% last year and 96% average. Harvested was 57%, behind 76% last year, but near 54% average.

Sorghum condition rated 4% very poor, 9% poor, 29% fair, 49% good, and 9% excellent. Sorghum mature was 93%, near 97% last year, and equal to average. Harvested was 61%, near 62% last year, but ahead of 43% average.

Cotton condition rated 1% very poor, 4% poor, 45% fair, 45% good, and 5% excellent. Cotton bolls opening was 92%, near 91% last year and 89% average. Harvested was 5%, behind 10% last year, and near 8% average.

Sunflowers harvested was 53%, near 56% last year, but ahead of 37% average.

Pasture and range conditions rated 6% very poor, 20% poor, 39% fair, 33% good, and 2% excellent.
