20th WMF conference - elevating women in agriculture

By Scout Nelson

The much-anticipated 20th edition of the Women Managing the Farm (WMF) Conference is scheduled to take place in Manhattan, Kansas, from February 14-16, 2024. This conference, which has been a crucial event since its inception in 2005, is a platform for women involved in all aspects of agriculture.

Sandra Wick, the co-chair of the WMF conference planning committee, expresses her enthusiasm for this landmark event. The conference aims to equip women with essential skills, knowledge, and resources, strengthening their roles in an ever-evolving agricultural landscape.

The 2024 conference, themed "Rise," will feature prominent keynote speakers such as Mark Mayfield, Kim Bremmer, and Terrain economist Matt Roberts. A panel consisting of Master Farmers and Homemakers will share their insights, adding to the rich content of the event.

Participants can choose from a variety of breakout sessions covering topics like farm financial planning, production agriculture, work-life balance, and transition planning.  The conference is designed to keep attendees abreast of the latest agricultural trends and strategies for thriving in rural communities.

This special 20th-anniversary event extends an invitation to women across Kansas, including on-farm producers, landowners, and agribusiness professionals. Enhancing the experience, the WMF is organizing pre-conference tours across Kansas in partnership with local K-State Research & Extension units, offering a unique opportunity to explore agricultural sites en route to Manhattan.

Early bird registration is available until January 18, 2024, at $175, with scholarship opportunities for early applicants. A special student rate of $75 is also offered, encouraging the participation of the next generation in agriculture. Post-deadline registration is set at $200, with additional sessions, including one on emotional wellness, available for $25.
