Kansas State University will host the 2026 Henry C. Gardiner Global Food Systems Lecture on October 5,2026, featuring nutrition researcher Yanni Papanikolaou. The event will be held at McCain Auditorium at 7:00 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
Papanikolaou, president of Nutritional Strategies, specializes in nutrition research and regulatory affairs. For more than 20 years, he has used data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) to study the links between dietary habits, nutrient intake, and health outcomes.
His research has examined a variety of foods, including animal and plant proteins, beans, grains, and eggs. Through large-scale nutrition data analysis, he has contributed to a better understanding of how food choices influence public health.
During the lecture, Papanikolaou will discuss the benefits and limitations of large nutrition datasets. The presentation will explore how researchers use population-level data to evaluate protein consumption, dietary patterns, and long-term health outcomes.
The Henry C. Gardiner Global Food Systems Lecture Series focuses on issues related to agriculture, nutrition, food production, and global food systems. The program encourages discussions among researchers, students, producers, and the public on topics affecting food and health.
The lecture series is supported by the Gardiner family of Ashland, Kansas, in honor of the late Henry C. Gardiner and his contributions to the beef industry. The initiative continues to promote education and informed dialogue on agriculture, nutrition, and food-related challenges.
By hosting experts such as Papanikolaou, Kansas State University provides opportunities for audiences to better understand the connections between nutrition science, dietary choices, and public health.
