In Kansas, county 4-H fair season offers a ton of chances to show off skills and gain knowledge. Kansas 4-H members, their families, and K-State Research and Extension employees are all expected to participate in and learn from this event.
Participants don't need to be enrolled in specific projects to join, making it an excellent chance for everyone to add new learning experiences to their record books. Sponsored by the Kansas Wheat Commission and other partners, the event runs from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. It includes tours of the Kansas Wheat Innovation Center and the Hal Ross Flour Mill. The Innovation Center focuses on developing new wheat varieties with better yields and quality, while the Hal Ross Flour Mill is a teaching facility that demonstrates the process of turning wheat into flour and explores ways to improve flour milling.
The expo features a wheat judging contest and a Market Wheat Show with various divisions, such as bin run wheat, clean wheat, yeast rolls, cookies, muffins, wheat photos, and educational posters.
There's something for everyone, including a special category for Cloverbuds (ages 5-6). The Market Wheat Show offers cash awards for the top three entries in each division, along with ribbons for all participants.
The event provides a unique opportunity for youth and adults to learn more about wheat and showcase their skills. Whether you're involved in crop production, food preparation, or photography, the Wheat Expo is a great way to gain new insights and have fun.
A $10 registration fee covers lunch and refreshments, making it an affordable and enriching experience for all. Join the Kansas 4-H Wheat Expo to explore the world of wheat and connect with the community.
