Kansas Hosts the National Festival of Breads: Celebrating America's Creative Home Bakers


The eighth National Festival of Breads, sponsored by King Arthur Baking Co. and Kansas Wheat, is set to take place on June 1 in a virtual format. A panel of judges has diligently selected the final recipes that will be featured in this prestigious event, showcasing the ingenuity of America's home bakers.

Out of numerous submissions, four finalists have been chosen for the nation's only national amateur bread-baking competition. Additionally, the judges have recognized 23 Honorable Mention award winners.

The finalists and award recipients hail from various states across the country and include:

Austin, Texas resident Marian Evoniuk won the Go Nuts category with her Mocha Coffee Pecan Babka.

With her Nutty Pumpkin Cranberry Dinner Rolls in the Quick and Simple category, Dallas, Texas, resident Carol Adamek.

Susan Wiebe from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with her Knotty 7 Grain Rolls in the Wholesome and Healthy category.

The National Festival of Breads is open to amateur adult home bakers who are 18 years of age and older and enter their unique yeast bread recipes. Gloria Piantek from West Lafayette, Indiana, won the Say Cheese category with her Cheese Lover's Barbecue Bread Twists. Selected recipes are tested baked in the Kansas Wheat Test Kitchen in Manhattan, Kansas, after being examined by a panel of knowledgeable food experts.

The four category winners will each get a $250 baking package from sponsors in addition to a cash award of $500. The overall Best of Breads Champion will be selected from these category winners and given a $1,000 cash prize.

Additionally, from May 15 to May 26, online voters will choose a People's Choice winner. The winner of this championship will get a $100 baking package.

The Kansas Wheat, King Arthur Baking Co., Stafford County Flour Mills Co., HyVee, Texas Wheat, Manhattan Convention & Visitors Bureau and Kansas Corn Commission are pleased to support the National Festival of Breads. It is evidence of the skills and enthusiasm of home bakers all around the country.
