Kansas Offers Farm Transition Guidance

Kansas Offers Farm Transition Guidance

By Scout Nelson

Kansas State University’s Department of Agricultural Economics, through its Office of Farm and Ranch Transition, is partnering with the Community Foundation of Southeast Kansas to host two educational conferences focused on long term planning for agricultural operations. These events are designed to help families prepare for future ownership and management changes in a clear and practical way.

The Farm and Ranch Transition Conferences will take place on February 17 in Fort Scott and February 18 in Fredonia. Each conference will run from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., offering a full day of structured learning and discussion. The sessions are intended for families who want to better understand succession and estate planning while keeping their agricultural businesses stable and productive.

The conferences will focus on key transition topics such as planning timelines, business continuity, communication between generations, and managing financial and legal considerations. Attendees will gain insights into how thoughtful planning can reduce uncertainty, avoid conflict, and support long-term success for agricultural operations. The goal is to provide families with practical tools they can begin using immediately.

Each conference has a registration fee of $25 per person. Families registering four or more attendees are eligible for a reduced rate of $5 per person. Lunch and educational materials are included, making the events affordable and convenient for participants from across the region.

By hosting the conferences in two locations, organizers aim to improve access for families in southeastern Kansas and nearby areas. The partnership reflects a shared commitment to strengthening agricultural businesses through education and early planning.

Those interested in attending or learning more can find full details and registration information online at https://www.agmanager.info/events/farm-and-ranch-transition-conferences. Early registration is encouraged to ensure adequate materials and meal planning.

These conferences provide a valuable opportunity for agricultural families to learn, ask questions, and take important steps toward a smooth and successful transition for future generations.
