Members of the Kansas Livestock Association (KLA) are encouraged to participate in a cartridge recycling initiative during the KLA Convention & Expo, taking place November 18-20, 2026,in Manhattan, Kansas. The program allows livestock producers to support agricultural education while promoting the proper disposal of used livestock implant materials.
Producers can bring empty Ralgro and Revalor cartridges to the convention and drop them off at the Merck Animal Health booth. For every cartridge collected, Merck Animal Health will donate 25 cents to the Kansas Livestock Foundation (KLF) scholarship program, helping support students pursuing higher education and careers in agriculture.
Members who cannot attend the convention can still contribute through local KLA county meetings or fall roundtable events held before the expo. Participants are encouraged to specify their home county when submitting cartridges to ensure local contributions are recognized.
The initiative demonstrates how producer participation can help generate scholarship funding for future agricultural leaders. Even small donations can collectively make a meaningful impact on educational opportunities for students across Kansas.
The program also reflects the partnership between Merck Animal Health, KLA and KLF in supporting both agricultural advancement and student development. By recycling used cartridges, producers can contribute to an effort that benefits the livestock industry and the next generation of professionals.
The program has already delivered measurable results. Based on contributions collected last year, the Kansas Livestock Foundation awarded 10 scholarships totaling $11,000 for the current academic year.
Organizers hope participation will continue to grow this year, generating additional scholarship funds and expanding educational opportunities for students interested in agriculture and related fields.
By donating empty cartridges, KLA members can support scholarship programs, encourage responsible recycling practices and help strengthen the future of Kansas agriculture.
