Tour Simple Abundance, Stand Up for Soil Saturday

The Kansas Farmers Union is hosting a tour of Simple Abundance Farm and encouraging participation in Jako Farm's Stand Up for Soil Oct. 12. There is no cost to attend the events.

Simple Abundance Farm, 525 N. Poplar St., South Hutchinson, is is a small-scale urban vegetable farm. Adam and Maggie Pounds are first-generation farmers and Hutchinson natives. They cultivate fresh nutritious, and flavorful produce, specializing in a variety of baby greens, lettuce mixes, salad mixes, and microgreens. They use natural and sustainable, biointensive farm methods to produce high yields on a minimal amount of land while maintaining the integrity of the environment. Along with growing and selling produce, they also make and sell small batch naturally fermented foods containing live cultures and locally grown produce. They create and sell a variety of sauerkrauts, pickled vegetables, fermented stone-ground mustards, and fermented salsas.

Simple Abundance Farm Stand in South Hutchinson features produce and ferments as well as other local products such as farm-fresh eggs, local salt blends, and locally roasted coffee.

The tour will begin at 2:30 p.m., after which Saturday's attendees will travel to Jako Farm, 6003 E. Eales Rd., Hutcinsin for its "Stand Up for Soil" event.

The evening events include a re-seeding party in the pasture at 4 p.m. and the Jakopure Soup Supper beginning at 5:30 p.m. The "Farmer's Footprint" film will be screened at 6:30 p.m. with a panel discussion to follow. A bonfire and live music resumes at 7:30 p.m.
