The Kansas Department of Agriculture’s Division of Conservation (KDA DOC) is offering financial assistance to commercial feedyards and dairy operations through the Kansas Livestock Water Efficiency Project, an initiative aimed at improving water conservation and efficiency in large-scale livestock operations.
The program will support producers in upgrading existing livestock watering systems through investments in high-efficiency livestock waterers, water controls, and water recycling systems. These improvements are intended to reduce water waste while enhancing operational efficiency.
Applications will be accepted from October 14 through November 6. To be eligible, applicants must hold a current stockwater water right issued by the state. Approved participants may receive cost-share assistance covering up to 75% of project costs, with funding available up to $100,000 per project.
Equipment purchases, subscriptions, or related expenses incurred before agency approval will not qualify for reimbursement. This requirement ensures that funding is directed toward approved projects under the program.
Funding for the initiative is provided through the State Water Plan Fund and is administered by the Kansas Department of Agriculture’s Division of Conservation in consultation with the State Conservation Commission. The program is part of ongoing efforts to promote responsible water management and long-term sustainability within Kansas' livestock industry.
By encouraging the adoption of water-efficient technologies, the initiative aims to help feedyards and dairy operations conserve water resources while maintaining productivity.
