The Kansas Foundation for Agriculture in the Classroom (KFAC) has received the 2026 Excellence in Conservation and Environmental Education Award. This honor was presented by the Kansas Association for Conservation and Environmental Education during a special event held in April 2026. The award recognizes organizations that show strong leadership, innovation, and collaboration in environmental education.
For more than 40 years, KFAC has worked to connect students with agriculture and conservation. Its programs help students understand how food is produced and how natural resources are managed. Today, KFAC reaches all counties across Kansas, offering learning materials and activities that support both agriculture and environmental education.
The organization provides lesson plans for students from early years to high school. These lessons cover subjects such as science, math, reading, and art. All materials are based on real-world farming practices and are aligned with education standards. This approach helps teachers deliver practical and meaningful lessons in the classroom.
"Awards like this remind us that the work is being seen, and more importantly, that it is making a difference. We are grateful to KACEE for this recognition and grateful to every educator, volunteer, and supporter who make our work possible," says Nancy Zenger-Beneda, KFAC Executive Director.
Collaboration plays an important role in KFAC’s success. Teachers and experts work together to develop resources, ensuring high quality and accuracy. The organisation also provides free classroom kits that include materials for hands-on activities. Since launching this program, thousands of teachers and students across Kansas have benefited.
KFAC has also introduced innovative tools such as a digital county map that connects educators with local agriculture experts. Other recent efforts include teacher grants, conference participation, and interactive exhibits that promote learning about farming and conservation.
Overall, this award highlights KFAC’s strong commitment to education and community engagement. The organization continues to expand its reach and support students in understanding agriculture, conservation, and the environment.
