The Kansas Sustainable Ranchers Tour, hosted by Farm Journal’s Trust in Food Initiative, will take place Sept. 29 at Clover Cliff Ranch near Elmdale, Kansas. The event is designed to connect ranchers, landowners, and agricultural professionals while providing practical insights into sustainable ranch management.
Participants will receive an update on the current state of the beef industry and learn about key trends shaping the sector. The program also includes a demonstration of the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) rainfall simulator, highlighting the effects of different land management practices on soil health, water infiltration, and runoff.
Attendees will take part in discussions focused on grazing management, conservation programs, and sustainability across the beef supply chain. These sessions are intended to provide producers with practical strategies that can be applied to their operations.
The event will also feature a visit to Mushrush Ranches, where attendees will tour the operation and hear directly from the Mushrush family. They will share how regenerative grazing practices help improve pasture productivity and support long-term sustainability.
During the ranch tour, the family will discuss the technologies used to enhance efficiency and decision-making on the ranch. They will also explain their approach to managing woody encroachment in Flint Hills pastures and maintaining healthy grazing lands.
In addition, attendees will learn about the role of cattle genetics and animal care in creating a sustainable and productive ranching operation. The tour is expected to offer real-world examples of balancing environmental stewardship with operational performance.
Registration begins at 8 a.m., and the event concludes at 2:30 p.m. Attendance is free, but advance registration is required, and lunch will be provided for registered participants.
