Rural Voters Demand Congress Approve E15

Rural Voters Demand Congress Approve E15

By Jamie Martin

Rural Voices USA has expanded its national campaign to push for year-round E15 fuel legislation. The effort targets lawmakers in several Midwestern states, including Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.

The campaign uses online ads and billboards to spread awareness about the rising cost of fuel and the growing challenges faced by farmers. A new campaign message focuses on high gas prices and calls on Congress to take action.

Recent trends show increasing pressure on both consumers and agricultural producers. Gas prices have climbed close to $4 per gallon, rising significantly in a short time. At the same time, many farms are struggling to survive.

Government data reveals that nearly 150,000 farms have been lost in the past five years. Smaller farms have been the most affected. In addition, farm bankruptcy filings increased sharply in 2025, showing growing financial stress in the sector.

E15 fuel offers a possible solution. It is typically cheaper than regular gasoline and can help lower fuel costs for consumers. It also supports farmers by increasing demand for crops used in ethanol production.

Currently, E15 availability depends on temporary approvals, which must be renewed regularly. Supporters argue that a permanent policy would provide stability and long-term benefits.

"Gas prices have doubled in a month. Farmers are going bankrupt at a rate we haven't seen in years. And Congress left town," said Chris Gibbs, Board Chairman of Rural Voices USA.

"The fact that the administration had to issue yet another emergency waiver proves the point. E15 works. It lowers prices for consumers and creates markets for farmers. Congress needs to stop protecting a handful of oil refiners and pass year-round E15," said Gibbs.

The campaign also points to economic advantages. Year-round E15 could create thousands of jobs, boost economic growth, and reduce reliance on imported energy sources.

Polling data from rural communities shows strong support for E15 policies, especially among farm families. Many voters say they are more likely to support leaders who back such measures.

Through this campaign, Rural Voices USA aims to increase public awareness and encourage lawmakers to pass legislation that supports both farmers and consumers while strengthening the rural economy.
