Every year, the Swine Health Information Center (SHIC) develops a fresh strategic roadmap, paired with a financial blueprint for the upcoming year.
Dr. Paul Sundberg, SHIC Executive Director, highlighted the significance of the Plan of Work which steers the center across five vital arenas: refining swine health information, monitoring health threats, addressing emerging diseases, disease surveillance, and understanding swine disease patterns.
Dr. Sundberg emphasized SHIC's approach of engaging diverse groups, including pork producers, veterinarians, and researchers, to gather insights on disease priorities and the center's value. The collected feedback is crucial for the Board of Directors' review by January 2024.
The mission of SHIC revolves around enhancing swine health information, monitoring potential health threats, responding promptly to new diseases, and deepening understanding about disease-causing agents.
Dr. Sundberg emphasizes an inclusive approach, aiming to gather diverse feedback. A draft plan will be created by year-end, with the SHIC Board finalizing direction for the following year.
