Understanding the farm bill - impacts on agriculture and food security

By Scout Nelson

The Farm Bill stands as a cornerstone piece of legislation for Kansas's agricultural sector, encompassing a broad spectrum of topics from farming practices to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). This critical legislation, set for debate in Congress this year, will dictate farming and food stamp policies for the upcoming half-decade.

We are excited to host a discussion featuring Zach Helder, Senior Agriculture Advisor to Representative Sharice Davids, and Nick Levendofsky, Executive Director of the Kansas Farmers Union. This conversation, part of a four-part Discussion Group Series led by Karen Willey, will cover Farm Bill's significant implications, debates surrounding it, and its environmental impact.

This event is a collaborative effort between the Kansas Farmers Union and the KU Department of Political Science, aiming to shed light on the vast influence of the Farm Bill on both the state's largest industry and its residents' food security.

Mark your calendars for Tuesday, February 20, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 5:15 PM at the Dole Institute of Politics in Lawrence, KS. Don't miss this opportunity to gain insights into legislation that will shape the landscape of Kansas agriculture and SNAP policies for years to come.
