Kansas Hog Inventory Unchanged from 2019

Kansas inventory of all hogs and pigs on September 1, 2020, was 2.09 million head, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. This was unchanged from September 1, 2019, but down 5% from June 1, 2020.

Breeding hog inventory, at 175,000 head, was unchanged from September 1, 2019, but down 3% from last quarter. Market hog inventory, at 1.92 million head, was unchanged from last year, but down 5% from last quarter.

The June - August 2020 Kansas pig crop, at 942,000 head, was down 4% from 2019. Sows farrowed during the period totaled 88,000 head, down 2% from last year. The average pigs saved per litter was 10.70 for the June - August period, compared to 10.90 last year.

Kansas hog producers intend to farrow 87,000 sows during the September - November 2020 quarter, down 5,000 from the actual farrowings during the same period a year ago. Intended farrowings for December 2020 - February 2021 are 84,000 sows, down 3,000 from the actual farrowings during the same period a year ago.
