Colyer and Kelly Meet to Ensure Smooth Transition
Kansas Ag Connection - 11/08/2018

Governor Jeff Colyer met Wednesday with Governor-elect Laura Kelly to discuss the logistics of transitioning power to the new administration over the next several weeks. Colyer is committed to creating a smooth transition and has worked very hard to ensure that not only will the new governor's office have everything they need to govern successfully, but also that he is leaving Kansas in a positive state of health for the next administration. '

"I would like to congratulate Governor-elect Kelly and her team and am proud to say we are handing them a state on the rise," said Colyer. "During my time in the governor's office we have created 9,700 new non-agriculture jobs across Kansas, the state's unemployment rate declined from 3.9% to 3.3% and the state's personal wages have increased by 4.8%."'

"I'm grateful to Governor Jeff Colyer for his commitment to making this a smooth transition. Kansas will be better off due to his cooperation and support," said Kelly. "We will work tirelessly to move Kansas forward. As I mentioned last night, I will do everything I can to set the right tone here in Topeka. As governor, I will listen to Republican and Democratic leaders alike and to the people of this state. This is the beginning of a new era of cooperation in Kansas."

Following changes to the tax code, the revenue outlook for the state improved. In the last ten months, fiscal year tax collections have exceeded previous totals by $183.49 million. The state's credit rating was upgraded from negative to stable, and the state is expected to pay off the unfunded liability on KPERS by 2033, three years earlier than previously estimated.

"When I took office in January, I had one vision, and that was to create a state where Kansans saw their future, a state with endless job opportunities, and a state people would be proud to call home. I think we have accomplished that goal," said Gov. Colyer. "It has been a privilege to serve Kansans as their 47th Governor and I will do all I can to support the peaceful transition of power to the Kelly administration."

The transition process will begin immediately. More information will be released in the coming days.
