Adam York has been appointed as the new CEO of Kansas Sorghum, succeeding Jesse McCurry, who resigned on November 28. York, who previously served as the director of programs, has a strong industry background, including roles as sustainability director and government affairs director.
York expressed his commitment to working alongside talented colleagues, visionary board members, and collaborative partners at all levels. His focus will be on harnessing investments that drive growth and positive impacts in the Kansas sorghum industry and the wider region.
Kansas sorghum farmers will have the opportunity to meet York at the annual meeting of the Kansas Grain Sorghum Producers, scheduled for January 25 at 3:30 p.m. at the American AgCredit office in Salina, Kansas.
This meeting will follow the joint winter board meetings of the association and the commission, where members will hear updates, adopt 2024 policy resolutions, and set priorities for the coming year. Elections for three director seats on the board will take place during this meeting.
The annual meeting precedes the 2024 Kansas Commodity Classic on January 26 at the Salina Hilton Garden Inn. In other news for the sorghum industry, the National Sorghum Producers recently announced significant updates to sorghum crop insurance effective in 2024.
The price election factor for sorghum will be at an all-time high relative to corn, reaching 100.2%. This increase reflects the growing market demand for sorghum and aims to incentivize growers to expand their grain sorghum production.
New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas have implemented changes to their sorghum silage policy, allowing irrigated double-crop sorghum to be insured. These changes, praised by CEO Tim Lust, are expected to boost sorghum growers and signal a promising period of growth and innovation for the sorghum industry.
