Kansas Corn, Soybean Planting Pace on Par with Averages



For the week ending Sunday, there were 5.8 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 37% very short, 32% short, 30% adequate, and 1% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 34% very short, 34% short, 31% adequate, and 1% surplus.

Winter wheat condition rated 13% very poor, 23% poor, 38% fair, 23% good, and 3% excellent. Winter wheat jointed was 49%, behind 65% last year and 60% for the five-year average.

Corn planted was 21%, near 19% last year, and equal to average. Emerged was 1%, near 5% last year and 3% average.

Soybeans planted was 3%, near 2% last year and 1% average.

Sorghum planted was 1%.

Cotton planted was 1%.
