Kansas Corn, Soybean Planting Pace Right on Schedule



For the week ending Sunday, there were 5.7 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 36% very short, 32% short, 31% adequate, and 1% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 34% very short, 34% short, 31% adequate, and 1% surplus.

Winter wheat condition rated 14% very poor, 25% poor, 36% fair, 22% good, and 3% excellent. Winter wheat jointed was 67%, behind 81% last year and 75% for the five-year average. Headed was 10%, near 11% last year, and behind 17% average.

Corn planted was 35%, near 34% last year and 36% average. Emerged was 8%, behind 13% last year, and near 11% average.

Soybeans planted was 11%, near 10% last year, and ahead of 5% average. Sorghum planted was 1%.

Cotton planted was 3%, near 1% both last year and average.

Pasture and range conditions rated 19% very poor, 22% poor, 37% fair, 21% good, and 1% excellent.
