Kansas Soybean Commission Sets Priorities at Annual Meeting

Kansas Soybean Commission Sets Priorities at Annual Meeting

By Scout Nelson

The Kansas Soybean Commission (KSC) is set to hold its Annual Meeting on August 15, 2025, bringing commissioners together to discuss important matters for the upcoming year. This gathering marks the first official meeting of the fiscal year and plays a vital role in setting research priorities and funding plans.

A major focus of the meeting is to establish checkoff funding priorities for the coming cycle. These priorities help guide how checkoff dollars are used to support projects that benefit soybean farmers and the agriculture industry in Kansas.

Beyond setting funding goals, commissioners will review current funded projects, discuss any needed changes, and consider modifications based on project progress and outcomes. These discussions ensure that funded initiatives continue to meet their objectives and align with the commission’s mission.

The agenda also includes updates from youth organizations involved in agriculture. Hearing from young leaders gives the commission valuable insights into future industry needs and opportunities.

Additionally, the commission will review updates from internal programs and industry partners, helping commissioners stay informed on the latest developments impacting soybean production and research.

An important part of the meeting will be the election of a new slate of officers to lead the Kansas Soybean Commission for the next year. These leaders will help shape future commission actions and decisions.

The meeting also officially opens the planning phase for the Request for Proposals (RFP) process. Each fall, the commission accepts proposals for funding, which are reviewed and considered at the December KSC meeting. These proposals play a key role in selecting research projects that align with the priorities set at the annual meeting.
