The USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service reports that Kansas experienced 5.6 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending July 20, 2025. Soil moisture conditions remain mostly adequate, with topsoil moisture rated at 6% very short, 22% short, 65% adequate, and 7% surplus. Subsoil moisture shows similar trends at 10% very short, 23% short, 63% adequate, and 4% surplus.
Winter wheat harvest stands at 97%, close to last year’s 99% and the five-year average of 94%.
Corn conditions remain steady, with ratings of 1% very poor, 8% poor, 27% fair, 47% good, and 17% excellent. Corn silking is at 61%, slightly behind last year’s 74%, but near the 64% average. Corn dough stage is at 24%, close to the 28% from last year and the 21% average.
Soybeans are rated 1% very poor, 6% poor, 29% fair, 53% good, and 11% excellent. Emergence is at 95%, slightly behind last year’s 100%, but near the 99% average. Blooming reaches 51%, aligning with both last year and the average. Pod setting is at 17%, matching last year and the average of 15%.
Sorghum fields are rated 1% very poor, 4% poor, 30% fair, 50% good, and 15% excellent. Heading is noted at 7%, falling behind last year’s 17% and the 15% average.
Cotton condition holds 0% very poor, 9% poor, 41% fair, 38% good, and 12% excellent. Squaring is at 66%, trailing behind last year’s 84% and the 82% average. Boll setting is at 20%, well behind the 49% of last year and the 26% average.
Pasture and range conditions are reported at 3% very poor, 10% poor, 30% fair, 49% good, and 8% excellent.
Kansas continues to monitor soil moisture and crop development closely as the growing season progresses.
