As of July 28, 2025, the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service reports that Kansas had 5.1 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending July 27. Soil moisture conditions remained generally positive, with topsoil moisture rated 6% very short, 18% short, 64% adequate, and 12% surplus. Subsoil moisture was 9% very short, 20% short, 62% adequate, and 9% surplus.
In the field crops report, corn condition stood at 2% very poor, 7% poor, 25% fair, 45% good, and 21% excellent. Corn silk was 77%, slightly behind 83% last year, but matching the five-year average. Corn in the dough stage was at 36%, just under last year’s 45%, and close to the 34% average.
The soybean condition remained strong with 1% very poor, 5% poor, 26% fair, 54% good, and 14% excellent. Soybeans blooming reached 63%, near 62% last year and the 64% average. Setting pods was at 27%, near both last year’s 25% and the 29% average.
Sorghum condition was rated at 2% very poor, 6% poor, 29% fair, 45% good, and 18% excellent. Sorghum headed stood at 19%, trailing 33% last year and the 26% average. Coloring was reported at 3%, close to both 6% last year and the average.
Cotton condition was stable with 0% very poor, 10% poor, 38% fair, 37% good, and 15% excellent. Squaring was at 85%, behind 95% last year, and close to the 89% average. Setting balls reached 27%, well behind 57% last year and the 39% average.
Pasture and range conditions were reported as 4% very poor, 9% poor, 26% fair, 50% good, and 11% excellent. Kansas crops continue steady development as moisture levels support healthy growth.
