The Kansas Soybean Commission (KSC) will meet on August 21 to review current projects, set soybean checkoff funding priorities for the new fiscal year, and elect a new slate of officers. The meeting will also feature the ribbon-cutting ceremony for Kansas State University’s Agronomy Innovation Center, supported by a $4 million investment from KSC.
The Agronomy Innovation Center is part of Kansas State University’s Agriculture Innovation Initiative and is expected to strengthen agricultural research, education, and extension efforts across Kansas. The facility will provide researchers with updated resources to better support soybean growers and the broader agricultural community.
Research will be a major focus of the Commission’s meeting. By aligning the meeting with the opening of the new agronomy complex, KSC aims to highlight the importance of public agricultural research and the role it plays in advancing soybean production.
Commissioners will establish research funding priorities that will help guide future investment decisions. Discussions with agronomic researchers will focus on current challenges facing soybean producers and identify areas where research can deliver the greatest benefits.
These priorities will serve as a framework for evaluating project proposals during the upcoming funding cycle. The Commission plans to open its public request for project proposals in September through the Kansas Soybean website.
Researchers, organizations, and industry stakeholders will have the opportunity to submit ideas aimed at improving soybean production and addressing key agricultural issues. The initiative is designed to ensure checkoff investments support meaningful and practical outcomes for Kansas farmers.
