Mid-States Materials Honored with Governor's Reclamation Award

The Kansas Department of Agriculture Division of Conservation announced that Mid-States Materials received the Governor's Mined Land Reclamation Award as part of the Kansas Aggregate Producers Association meeting in Olathe.

This award recognizes companies that excel in implementing mined land reclamation and convey a positive image of mining in Kansas. Mid-States Materials was recognized for work on the Plummer Creek Quarry site near Scranton.

The reclaimed area covers approximately 100 acres in Osage County. The reclamation project returned this land to be suitable for agriculture, recreation, and wildlife habitat, including wetland habitat with wetland vegetation transitioning to native prairie grasses. Reclamation occurred concurrently with mining operations and was completed soon after quarrying was concluded.

Mid-States Materials is based in Topeka and operates 23 quarries across the state. Mid-States supports and embraces environmental management to preserve the land for future generations. The Plummer Creek Quarry is a 450-acre limestone quarry with a depth of 30-40 feet.
