Over 75 Percent of Kansas Soil Moisture Very Short to Short



For the week ending Sunday, there were 6.1 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 43% very short, 33% short, 24% adequate, and 0% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 49% very short, 37% short, 14% adequate, and 0% surplus.

Winter wheat condition rated 19% very poor, 21% poor, 36% fair, 23% good, and 1% excellent. Winter wheat planted was 96%, equal to both last year and the five-year average. Emerged was 75%, behind 85% last year and 83% average.

Corn harvested was 96%, near 95% last year and 93% average.

Soybeans harvested was 93%, ahead of 84% last year and 86% average.

Sorghum harvested was 90%, ahead of 82% last year and 80% average.

Cotton harvested was 79%, well ahead of 28% last year and 30% average.

Sunflowers harvested was 88%, equal to last year, and ahead of 80% average.

Pasture and range conditions rated 54% very poor, 27% poor, 14% fair, 5% good, and 0% excellent.
