Christy Davis, USDA Rural Development Kansas Director, announced a significant partnership with Reinvestment Fund today, aiming to fortify local food financing programs and enhance access to nutritious foods in rural Kansas.
This initiative is part of a broader USDA effort to ensure that healthy, affordable, local food options are available to all, regardless of their location.
"Affordable, fresh, and healthy food should be available regardless of where you live," stated Davis. This collaboration seeks to strengthen local and regional food systems to make locally grown foods more accessible to rural communities.
The Kansas project will benefit from a $2,997,242 grant awarded to Kansas State University’s Kansas Healthy Food Initiative. This public-private partnership includes collaborators like NetWork Kansas, IFF, Kansas Health Foundation, and The Food Trust.
Together, they will work to enhance the health and economic development of Kansans by improving access to affordable, healthy food.
