U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development Kansas announced that USDA is investing $624,960 to assist low-income Kansans in building homes in the Coffeyville area.
"Investments like these increase the stability and independence of Kansans," said state leaders. "By helping low-income residence build their own homes it also increases the stability of the surrounding community as well."
This USDA investment comes through the Mutual Self-Help Housing Technical Assistance Grants Program which is designed to assist qualified organizations to carry out local self-help housing construction projects. Grant recipients supervise groups of very-low- and low-income individuals and families as they construct their own homes in rural areas.
The City of Coffeyville will receive a $624,960 grant to provide technical assistance for the construction of 20 homes by lower income families. By working in partnership with trusted local organizations, this program helps very low and low-income families get affordable, clean and safe homes of their own in rural areas. Very-low-income families living in substandard housing are given priority for loan assistance.
