Kansas Cotton Harvest Ahead of Average

For the week ending Sunday, there were 4.2 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 9 percent very short, 31 short, 57 adequate, and 3 surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 8 percent very short, 28 short, 60 adequate, and 4 surplus.

Winter wheat condition rated 4 percent very poor, 12 poor, 38 fair, 39 good, and 7 excellent. Winter wheat emerged was 92 percent, near 89 last year and 96 for the five-year average.

Cotton harvested was 71 percent, well ahead of 47 last year, and ahead of 64 average.

Sunflowers harvested was 97 percent, ahead of 88 last year, and near 93 average.

Pasture and range conditions rated 4 percent very poor, 10 poor, 29 fair, 51 good, and 6 excellent.
