FY27 Beef Checkoff Funding Research and Growth

FY27 Beef Checkoff Funding Research and Growth

By Scout Nelson

The Beef Promotion Operating Committee has approved approximately $39.5 million in Beef Checkoff funding for fiscal year 2027, pending final approval from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). The funding covers 12 authorization requests submitted by eight national beef organizations and will support initiatives beginning October 1,2026.

The committee consists of 20 producers, including representatives from the Cattlemen’s Beef Board and the Federation of State Beef Councils. Their role is to review proposals and allocate Checkoff resources to programs that strengthen the U.S. beef industry and expand market opportunities.

A significant share of the budget will support beef promotion efforts that emphasize nutrition, eating quality, convenience, and modern production practices. These campaigns are intended to increase consumer awareness and maintain demand for beef products across retail and foodservice markets.

Research continues to be a key priority under the FY27 plan. Funded projects will focus on beef safety, nutrition, product quality, sustainability, culinary expertise, and consumer perceptions, providing science-based information to help guide the industry’s future.

The approved funding will also support educational initiatives aimed at improving public understanding of the beef industry. Programs will work with primary and secondary school curriculum directors across the country to ensure students have access to accurate information about beef production and agriculture.

Additional resources will be dedicated to outreach and engagement with food, culinary, nutrition, and health professionals. Funding will also support media relations, public communications, and supply chain engagement efforts designed to strengthen industry connections and improve consumer trust.

International market development remains an important component of the investment strategy. The budget includes support for foreign marketing and educational activities in 13 regions covering more than 90 countries, helping expand global awareness of U.S. beef and create export opportunities for producers.
