Corn growers react to resolution outcome

Corn growers react to resolution outcome

By Scout Nelson

Following recent Congressional votes on year-end legislation, the corn industry has voiced both appreciation and disappointment regarding the outcomes impacting agricultural markets.

The legislation included essential economic and disaster assistance along with an extension of the farm bill, providing crucial support to the farming community. However, a significant concern was the exclusion of year-round market access for E15 fuel, a provision many in the industry had advocated for.

The Kansas Corn Growers Association noted the absence of the E15 provision, emphasizing its potential to provide economic relief to farmers and cost savings to consumers without incurring additional expenses. The association pledged to continue its efforts with Congress to reintroduce and pass this provision, highlighting its importance for both agricultural producers and the broader consumer market.

Similarly, the National Corn Growers Association expressed significant disappointment over the failure to secure a permanent, year-round solution for E15. They pointed out that such a provision would have offered a market-driven resolution beneficial to farmers facing low corn prices. The organization has called upon legislators to urgently address this issue in the upcoming session of Congress, aiming for a resolution that supports the agricultural sector and enhances fuel market stability.

Both associations commended the efforts of House and Senate Agriculture leadership for their work in extending the farm bill and providing economic and disaster assistance. This support is seen as vital for growers grappling with the impacts of natural disasters and ongoing economic challenges marked by low crop prices and high input costs.

As the new legislative session approaches, the corn industry remains hopeful for positive changes that will support sustainable agricultural practices and promote economic stability for farmers across the country.

The industry leaders are preparing to engage actively with legislators to ensure that critical issues such as E15 fuel accessibility are addressed, aiming to secure a favorable outcome that will benefit the agricultural community and consumers alike.
