Fundraising to rebuild after wildfire

Fundraising to rebuild after wildfire

By Scout Nelson

In the wake of a severe wildfire on October 18, southwest Geary County has seen significant agricultural damage. Over 1,168 acres across eight farm sites were ravaged, affecting many ranchers who suffered losses including vital winter grazing lands, hay stocks, and fencing necessary for their operations.

Responding to the crisis, JC Livestock Sales Inc., owned by the Langvardt family, initiated a fundraising effort during their special calf sale on October 28.

This community-centric approach drew support from a wide network including the Livestock Marketing Association, Geary County Farm Bureau, and numerous local agricultural enterprises and financial institutions. Contributions were also made by several consigners at the sale.

The commitment to aid those impacted does not end here. JC Livestock Sales has pledged to continue accepting monetary donations through November 15, ensuring ongoing support for the ranchers as they attempt to recover from the wildfire's destruction. This collective effort underscores the strong community ties and the resilience inherent in the agricultural sectors of Geary County.

As efforts to rebuild continue, the support from JC Livestock Sales and its contributors highlights the crucial role that solidarity plays in overcoming the challenges posed by natural disasters in farming communities.

It is a testament to the spirit of cooperation and mutual assistance that prevails in the face of adversity, ensuring that affected ranchers have the necessary resources to restore their livelihoods and continue contributing to the local economy.
