Southwest Kansas Groundwater Management District No. 3 is hosting a series of producer meetings to gather feedback on a proposed Local Enhanced Management Area plan. The meetings are designed to ensure the plan supports long term groundwater conservation while remaining practical for agricultural operations in the region.
The organization leading the effort, Southwest Kansas Groundwater Management District No. 3, is seeking direct input from producers who may be affected by the proposed plan. The goal is to balance responsible water use with the operational needs of agriculture in southwest Kansas.
Each meeting will include a clear overview of the draft LEMA plan. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions, share concerns, and provide suggestions. This feedback will help shape decisions related to groundwater use and management in the district. The meetings are open to producers from all areas, and participants are welcome to attend any location that fits their schedule.
The scheduled meetings are set for January 21 at the City of Plains Community Building at 1:00 p.m.; January 22 at the Gray County Fairgrounds in Cimarron at 1:00 p.m.; February 18 at the Holcomb Recreation Commission at 1:00 p.m.; and February 19 at the Stanton County Senior Center in Johnson at 1:30 p.m. Information for all regions will be available at each meeting upon request.
The proposed LEMA plan focuses on conserving groundwater resources while supporting the long-term sustainability of agriculture. By encouraging participation, the district aims to ensure the plan reflects local conditions and realistic management practices. These discussions are an important step in addressing water challenges while protecting the future of agricultural production.
Producers who are unable to attend a meeting in their immediate area are encouraged to attend another session. Additional information about the meetings and the proposed plan is available by calling (620) 275-7147 or by visiting the official website at:
