Lawmakers Push to Rebuild Farm Bill Coalition Across Parties

By Scout Nelson

U.S. Representative Sharice Davids, Representative Brad Finstad, and Center Forward recently discussed the future of the Farm Bill coalition, emphasizing the importance of bipartisan cooperation to support farmers, strengthen rural communities, and maintain affordable food supplies. The discussion focused on rebuilding collaboration around legislation that has historically united rural and urban interests.

Davids highlighted the need to restore the bipartisan approach that has long guided Farm Bill negotiations. She noted that agricultural support programs and food assistance initiatives have traditionally worked together to strengthen both farming communities and food security.

Finstad emphasized the Farm Bill’s importance to agricultural producers, rural economies, and families across the country. He also stressed that cooperation across party lines is essential to ensuring the legislation meets the needs of diverse communities.

Center Forward CEO Cori Kramer underscored the value of bipartisan policymaking and recognized efforts by lawmakers to advance practical solutions through collaboration. The organization continues to promote dialogue aimed at building consensus on key policy issues.

Earlier this year, Davids, a member of the House Agriculture Committee, supported a bipartisan Farm Bill package designed to provide certainty for farmers, strengthen the nation’s food supply, and help address rising consumer costs.

For decades, the Farm Bill has brought together lawmakers from rural and urban districts to support agriculture, conservation, trade opportunities, and nutrition assistance programs. However, disagreements over funding for programs such as SNAP have made bipartisan agreement more challenging in recent years.

Davids has expressed concerns that reductions in SNAP funding could negatively affect farm income and jobs throughout the agricultural supply chain. She has also supported efforts to maintain the bipartisan framework that has traditionally shaped Farm Bill legislation.
