Hay And Fencing Donations Needed

Hay And Fencing Donations Needed

By Scout Nelson

The Kansas Livestock Association is helping organize relief efforts for ranchers affected by severe wildfires in southwest Kansas. Extremely high winds combined with dry ground and air created dangerous conditions that allowed several fires to grow quickly across multiple counties. Some fires remain uncontained as recovery efforts continue.

These wildfires have caused serious damage to pastureland, fencing, and livestock operations. Many ranchers face immediate challenges in feeding and managing their cattle. In response, the Kansas Livestock Association, known as KLA, is working to coordinate donations of hay and fencing supplies.

Collection sites across the region are accepting donated materials. KLA is assisting with communication and logistics to ensure supplies reach the hardest-hit areas. The organization continues to assess needs as more information becomes available from local communities.

Producers and businesses who wish to donate hay or fencing materials are encouraged to call the KLA office at 785 273 5115. Staff members will help coordinate drop-off locations and provide guidance on where supplies are most needed. Ranchers who require assistance are also asked to contact the same number for support.

Hay is essential for feeding livestock when pastureland is damaged by fire. Fencing supplies are also critical because burned fences can allow cattle to escape, creating safety risks and additional financial losses. Quick action helps ranchers protect their animals and stabilize operations during recovery.

Community support plays a key role during times of disaster. Agriculture groups, local businesses, and neighbors often come together to provide aid and resources. These combined efforts help reduce the financial burden on affected families and speed up the recovery process.

Wildfires can spread rapidly when strong winds and dry weather occur at the same time. Producers are urged to remain alert and follow local safety guidelines while recovery continues.

The Kansas Livestock Association remains committed to supporting ranchers during this difficult time and encourages anyone who can help to step forward.
