Kansas Ag department sets conservation meeting for March

By Scout Nelson

The State Conservation Commission (SCC) has scheduled its next regular meeting for Monday, March 18, 2024. Starting at 9:00 a.m., the event will be hosted at the Kansas Department of Agriculture (KDA) office located at 1320 Research Park Drive in Manhattan.

This meeting offers an open invitation to the public, emphasizing the commission's commitment to transparency and community involvement in conserving Kansas' precious natural resources.

The SCC has a diverse membership, including five elected commissioners, two ex officio members from Kansas State University, and two appointed members from the KDA and the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Natural Resources Conservation Service.

Collaboration is key for the SCC, working closely with the KDA Division of Conservation. Their joint efforts are dedicated to safeguarding and improving Kansas' environment.

This partnership supports local governments and individuals through various conservation programs, guidelines, and policy initiatives aimed at preserving the state's renewable resources.

Those interested in attending the meeting can either join in person or tune in via Zoom, ensuring widespread access to the discussions. For more information, agenda requests, or Zoom details, the KDA Division of Conservation is ready to assist. Contact them at kda.doc@ks.gov or by calling 785-564-6620.

The upcoming SCC meeting represents a vital opportunity for Kansas residents to engage with and contribute to the state's conservation efforts, ensuring a sustainable future for Kansas' natural landscapes.
