The Kansas Beef Council (KBC) hosted a workshop during the 2026 Charolais Junior National in Hutchinson, Kansas, to help young cattle producers strengthen their communication and advocacy skills. Led by Weston Schrader, KBC manager of industry relations, the session focused on educating participants about the beef checkoff program and its role in supporting the beef industry.
More than 50 attendees from 31 states learned how checkoff investments fund marketing campaigns, consumer outreach, social media initiatives, and export market development to help increase beef demand. The workshop also explained the value and impact of producer-funded programs.
A major feature of the session was an interactive exercise in which participants created and practiced their own “elevator pitches.” The activity encouraged young producers to confidently share their experiences in raising cattle and producing beef, helping them build trust with consumers and improve public understanding of the industry.
The workshop emphasized the importance of preparing the next generation of agricultural leaders to serve as effective advocates for the beef industry. By combining education about the beef checkoff with practical communication training, KBC provided participants with valuable tools to engage consumers and promote the positive story of beef production.
