Kansas is celebrating its significant contributions to agriculture on Kansas Agriculture Day, March 18, and throughout Kansas Agriculture Month, proclaimed by Governor Laura Kelly. The state’s Department of Agriculture (KDA) hosted a special day at the Kansas State Capitol, underscoring agriculture's pivotal role as Kansas’ largest industry, employer, and economic driver.
The celebration at the Capitol featured members from the Kansas trademark program "From the Land of Kansas," along with partners from various Kansas agricultural organizations. They showcased Kansas-made products to legislators and state leaders, emphasizing agriculture’s immense value to the state’s economy. Kansas stands as a national leader in grain sorghum and wheat production and ranks among the top three states for cattle and calves.
Agriculture in Kansas not only contributes more than $88 billion to the state's economy but also plays a crucial role in feeding families both locally and globally. The crops and livestock raised in Kansas reach tables across the world, symbolizing the state's integral part in the global food supply.
Throughout March, Kansas Agriculture Month, KDA and its partners celebrate the dedicated individuals within the agriculture community. Events and promotions are designed to recognize and honor the hard work of those who sustain the farming and ranching traditions in Kansas. These celebrations highlight how agriculture remains central to the health and prosperity of the state.
