Kansas corn honors veterans with fuel discount

By Scout Nelson

In celebration of Veterans Day, Kansas Corn and Veterans for Renewable Fuels, a project of the Renewable Fuels Association, are offering drivers a special fuel discount on Monday, November 11.

This promotion will run from 10 a.m. to noon at the Casey’s located at 13406 W 151st St. in Olathe, Kansas, with Unleaded88/E15 priced at $2.15 per gallon and E85 at just $0.85 per gallon.

As an additional benefit, veterans, active-duty members, and those serving in the reserves or National Guard will receive a $20 Casey’s gift card from the sponsors, while supplies last. Veterans can also enjoy a complimentary coffee or fountain drink from Casey’s with proof of service.

The event will highlight the benefits of ethanol fuels, which are American-made, lower-cost, and produce fewer carbon emissions. Unleaded88/E15 is approved for most cars and light-duty vehicles manufactured after 2000, which means over 96% of vehicles on the road today are eligible to use it. E85, a blend of 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline, is suitable for flex-fuel vehicles (FFVs). Currently, more than 22 million FFVs operate across the U.S.

“We’re happy to be able to work with Kansas Corn and Casey’s to help drivers understand the value of lower-cost, lower-carbon ethanol while also honoring the men and women who help keep our country free,” said RFA Senior Vice President for Industry Relations and Market Development Robert White.

“The ethanol industry is proud of the many veterans who are a large part of our workforce, and partnering with corn growers and a terrific retailer like Casey’s really adds to the value of this event on such a holiday as Veterans Day.”

Kansas Corn CEO Josh Roe emphasized the significance of this event in supporting both veterans and ethanol, stating, “A high percentage of those who serve in the military are from our rural farm communities.

This is an opportunity to spread the word about the low-cost, high-performance benefits of domestically produced ethanol fuels while honoring veterans who have served our country.”

Veterans for Renewable Fuels, a special project of the Renewable Fuels Association, was created to recognize the contributions of military veterans within the ethanol industry and to provide support for veterans’ career and personal development.
