Kansas Crops Show Mixed Weekly Trends

By Scout Nelson

The latest Kansas crop progress report for the week ending June 14, 2026, highlights a mixed agricultural situation across the state. Farmers experienced 4.9 days suitable for fieldwork, allowing steady progress in planting and crop management activities.

Moisture levels in the soil remained balanced. Topsoil moisture was rated 12% very short, 24% short, 53% adequate, and 11% surplus. Subsoil moisture conditions were similar, with 14% very short, 27% short, 53% adequate, and 6% surplus. These figures indicate that while some areas need more rainfall, many regions have enough moisture to support crops.

Winter wheat conditions remain a concern. The crop was rated 25% very poor and 32% poor, meaning more than half of the wheat fields are struggling. Only 14% was rated good, and none reached excellent condition. However, crop development is ahead of schedule. Wheat coloring reached 95%, compared to 86% last year, and harvesting has already reached 28%, much faster than the usual pace.

In contrast, corn is performing well. Only 5% of the crop is rated poor to very poor, while 63% is in good to excellent condition. Corn planting is nearly complete at 98%, and 90% of the crop has already emerged. Early silking has also begun, showing healthy growth.

Soybeans are also showing positive progress. Around 67% of the crop is rated good to excellent. Planting reached 87%, and 74% of soybeans have emerged, both higher than last year and the average levels.

Sorghum planting stands at 54%, slightly behind the average pace. Cotton shows mixed results, with more than half rated fair to poor, though planting is nearly complete and growth stages are ahead of normal. Sunflower planting has reached 63%, exceeding both last year and average levels.

Pasture and range conditions are moderate, with 46% rated good to excellent. Overall, Kansas agriculture shows strong performance in summer crops but faces challenges in wheat production this season.
