Kansas has elected new commissioners to oversee its crucial grain sectors, including corn, grain sorghum, soybeans, sunflowers, and wheat, with fresh leadership emerging in several central region districts.
For the Kansas Corn Commission, Brian Baalman from Sheridan County, Dennis McNinch from Ness County, and Paige Clawson from Haskell County have been elected to represent Districts I, II, and III, respectively.
The Kansas Grain Sorghum Commission sees Jon Berning from Scott County and Brant Peterson from Stanton County stepping up for Districts II and III, with District I positions to be appointed due to a lack of candidates.
The Kansas Soybean and Sunflower Commissions will appoint commissioners for all districts after no candidates came forward for the elections.
The Kansas Wheat Commission will have Brian Linin from Sherman County, Ronald Suppes from Lane County, and Gary Millershaski from Kearney County guiding Districts I, II, and III.
Commissioners play a crucial role in steering the direction of their respective crops through research, promotion, and education, funded by check-off funds.
These individuals, elected by fellow growers, reflect the collective ambition and dedication of Kansas' agricultural community. They will serve three-year terms beginning April 1, 2024, aiming to enhance the state's agricultural prosperity.
