The Kansas Department of Agriculture’s Division of Conservation has announced an extension of its wildfire recovery cost share assistance program for 2026. This initiative will support landowners affected by wildfires across several regions of Kansas. The program now includes damage from multiple wildfire events such as Ranger Road, Stevens, Tennis, Andrew Lane, Rawlins County, Gray Road, Salt, Arkansas River, 51, Meade County, Herman Ranch, Wolf Canyon, Lexington, Bouziden Ranch, Proffitt Lake, and other approved incidents.
The Kansas Wildfire Recovery Initiative was originally introduced earlier this year after severe wildfires caused major damage to grazing land and agricultural production. The extension was approved to ensure continued support for recovery activities. The program focuses on helping landowners rebuild their land and restore productivity using effective conservation practices.
Eligible landowners in Barber, Clark, Comanche, Finney, Meade, Rawlins, Seward, and Stevens counties, along with other approved areas, can receive financial assistance of up to 10,000 dollars. This support covers best management practices, including planting cover crops, setting up temporary watering facilities, and installing temporary electric fencing. These practices help improve soil health, support livestock, and speed up land recovery.
The signup period is currently open and has been extended until June 30, 2026. Applications must be submitted through local Conservation District offices. Landowners can find contact details by visiting the official website link. Applications will be processed on a first come first served basis until all funds are distributed.
Projects that have already started but are not yet completed may still qualify for support. Applicants must keep proper receipts and follow official program guidelines. However, meeting eligibility conditions does not guarantee approval, as all applications are carefully reviewed.
For more information, applicants can contact KDA–DOC staff through the provided email addresses and phone numbers Dave Jones, David.Jones@ks.gov, 785-564-6623; or Madison Loder, Madison.Loder@ks.gov, 785-477-2788. This program reflects the state’s strong commitment to helping landowners recover from wildfire damage and maintain long-term agricultural stability.
